Breaking the Language Barrier: The Rise of HeyGen AI
In the rapidly evolving landscape of generative artificial intelligence, few technologies have captured the public imagination—and disrupted global media—quite like HeyGen. As a leading platform in photo-realistic AI avatars, text-to-video generation, and seamless video translation, HeyGen has shifted from an ambitious startup to a cultural and corporate phenomenon.
Origins and Corporate Evolution
HeyGen was founded in 2020 by Joshua Xu (a former lead engineer at Snapchat) and Wayne Liang. Both co-founders attended Tongji University before earning master’s degrees from Carnegie Mellon University. Originally launched under the name Surreal (and later operating as Movio), the enterprise formally established its headquarters in Los Angeles in 2022.
